"One Small Change Can Have an Enormous Impact"

Karen Brown
"I am a registered counsellor and certified animal-assisted psychotherapist based in Western Australia. My practice is built on a deep commitment to honouring each client’s unique narrative and identity. Since graduating from the University of Notre Dame in 2013 with a Bachelor of Counselling, I have committed to continuous learning, integrating diverse therapeutic modalities to support people through life's complex challenges.
My approach is deeply personalised, blending professional expertise with my authentic self. Having lived experience as a carer for my husband with MND and later my father with Alzheimer’s, I bring a unique, deeply felt understanding to my practice. However, I believe your story belongs entirely to you; my role is not to judge or advise, but to walk alongside you. I firmly believe the foundation of effective therapy lies in the relationship itself—built on respect, non-judgment, and genuine authenticity to create a safe space for your growth."
Services

Individual Counselling
Individual counselling offers a path to navigate life's challenges, manage stress, boost self-esteem, and develop effective coping strategies for overall well-being. It's a collaborative journey where you're truly heard, validated, and empowered to make meaningful changes in your life.
I understand that taking the first step into counselling can feel daunting. Please know that I'm here to listen, address any concerns you may have, and tailor our sessions to meet your unique needs.

Grief and Bereavement
Grief is a natural and expected response to loss, whether it stems from the death of a loved one, the effects of a chronic or terminal illness, the death of a companion animal, or other significant life changes. Sometimes, multiple losses occur simultaneously, leaving you feeling disoriented and overwhelmed.
The journey through grief and bereavement is deeply personal and can often lead to feelings of isolation and uncertainty, especially when your own emotions and others' expectations about how you "should" be feeling, behaving, or responding, come into conflict.
Counselling can offer a supportive environment to help you navigate these challenging emotions, providing someone who is committed to understanding the unique and often complicated nature of your personal grief experience.

Group Therapy
I hold a certificate in group therapy and have considerable experience in this area.
Connecting with others with a shared experience can provide an opportunity to express your emotions, thoughts and behaviours in a safe space and feel less alone.
Groups are a powerful medium for change.
I facilitate groups in a variety of areas ranging from support groups to psychoeducational groups with a specific subject and goal. They can be one off, time limited or ongoing.
